Welcome To IWOPA'08 Live
Conference in honor of Guillermo López Lagomasino's 60th birthday
International Workshop on Orthogonal Polynomials and Approximation Theory
talks; which were delivered during the International Workshop on Orthogonal Polynomials
and Approximation Theory, held at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid from 8-12 September
2008, and dedicated to celebrate the 60th birthday of Guillermo López Lagomasino.
The videos have been published with the consent of the authors. Unfortunately, in some
few cases the microphone was used incorrectly and there are audio problems.
Let this page be a testimony of gratitude of Guillermo's students for his friendship and
teachings.

General Information
It is well known the increasing attention paid in the last decades to the theory of Orthogonal Polynomials. Numerous applications of these mathematical objects in different areas of Mathematics like numerical integration, spectral methods, interpolation, combinatorics, mathematical physics, quantum physics, and approximation theory among others have been particularly relevant.
The Universidad Carlos III de Madrid organizes every two years an international workshop devoted to Orthogonal Polynomials and their applications. The first edition in 1992 was dedicated to Sobolev orthogonal polynomials, in 1994 the main goal was the polynomials orthogonal in the unit circle, the 1996 edition (IWOP'96) considered the applications of orthogonal polynomials in mathematical physics; in 1998 (IWOP’98) the Worshop was focused in numerical applications and symbolic algorithms; in 2002 the meeting was devoted to the Approximation Theory, the 2004's edition of the Workshop was devoted to the discussions and reviews of the recent progress of the Theory of Orthogonal Polynomials in Mathematical Physics, while the last edition in 2006 – as Satellite Conference of ICM06- was focused on the recent trends in Constructive Approximation Theory.
The main aim of the 2008's
edition of the Workshop is to meet a number of scientists and
mathematicians for discussing and reviewing the recent progresses in
the Theory of Orthogonal Polynomials and Approximation
Theory. The Workshop will take place at
Escuela Politécnica Superior of the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid,
Leganés (
The topics to be considered are:
- Approximation Theory.
- Numerical Analysis, in particular Quadrature Formulas.
- Orthogonal Polynomials and Special Functions. Analytic properties and applications.
- Integrable Systems.
There will be 13 plenary lectures and a maximum of 46 short (30 minutes) contributed talks selected among the applicants on a competitive basis by the Scientific Committee. Those not selected for an oral communication will be encouraged to present a poster
